PresidentSpecialist in cybernetics, systems analysis, intelligent big data analysis, and decision-making theory. Doctor of Technical Sciences (1984), Professor (1985), Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine (both 1995), Corresponding Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (2022), Member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine since 1996. Honored Scientist and Technologist of Ukraine (2000). Three times winner of the State Prizes of USSR (1990) and Ukraine (1999, 2005) in Science and Technology, winner of the V. Glushkov Prize (1994), the V. Mikhalevych Prize (2004), and S. Lebedev Prize (2020) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Michael Zgurovsky was born in the urban-type settlement Skala-Podilska, Borshchivsky District, Ternopil region. He graduated from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (1975), where he has been working ever since (nowadays the National Technical University of Ukraine Igor Sikorsky “KPI”): starting from 1987 as a Professor at the Department of Technical Cybernetics, in 1988–92 as a Deputy Rector for Educational Work, starting from 1992 — as the Rector. Simultaneously in 1996–2015 – as the Director, and starting from 2015 – as the Scientific Director of the Institute for Applied System Analysis of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Minister of Education of Ukraine (1994–1999). M. Zgurovsky is a renowned scientist in the fields of cybernetics, systems analysis, intelligent big data analysis, and decision making theory. He has generalized the basic principles of the systems analysis theory, developed the fundamentals of systems mathematics, and suggested a new approach to the theory of extreme tasks for non-linear operators, differential-operator equations and inclusions, and variational inequalities. The most well-knows applications of the findings of his scientific studies pertain to the field of mathematical geophysics, geoinformatics, and social and economic issues of the modern society. His scientific school has graduated 12 doctors of sciences and more than 50 candidates of sciences (PhD). He is the author of 52 inventions, author and co-author of more than 820 scientific works, 38 monographs and textbooks, published in Germany, Poland, Japan, China, Ukraine, and other countries of the world. Under the scientific supervision of M. Zgurovsky, the Institute for Applied System Analysis of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development were created which focuse on global modeling of complicated processes, including sustainable development processes and on assessment of global threats to security and quality of human lives. M. Zgurovsky is the member of many Ukrainian and foreign scientific societies; He is the National Representative of the Scientific Committee of the ISC World Data System (WDS, Paris, France), Member of the Board of the World Knowledge Network on Education and Scientific Exchanges (EDNES, Strasbourg, France), National Representative of Ukraine to the International Science Council (ISC, Paris, France), a member of the Governing Board of the UNESCO for the sustainable development program in education. For his achievements in science, education, and development of international cooperation, Michael Zgurovsky was awarded state prizes of Ukraine (Full Cavalier of the Order of Merit), Italy, Estonia, Vietnam, Poland, France, Japan, China, prizes of the Polish Scientific Society. He is a member of editorial boards of a number of national and foreign scientific journals, and the editor-in-chief of the System Research and Information Technologies journal of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. |
