Automorphism groups of positive entropy on minimal projective varieties

We determine the geometric structure of a minimal projective threefold having two ‘independent and commutative’ automorphisms of positive topological entropy, and generalize this result to higher-dimensional smooth minimal pairs (X,G). As a consequence, we give an effective lower bound for the first dynamical degree of these automorphisms of X fitting the ‘boundary case’.

We extend R. Fernandes' construction of secondary characteristic classes of a Lie algebroid to the case of a base-preserving morphism between two Lie algebroids. Like in the case of a Lie algebroid, the simplest characteristic class of our construction coincides with the modular class of the morphism.

We use ergodic theory to prove a quantitative version of a theorem of M.A. Berger and Y. Wang, which relates the joint spectral radius of a set of matrices to the spectral radii of finite products of those matrices. The proof rests on a structure theorem for continuous matrix cocycles over minimal homeomorphisms having the property that all forward products are uniformly bounded.

Given a polarized manifold there are obstructions for asymptotic Chow semistability described as integral invariants which can be regarded as characters of the Lie algebra of holomorphic vector fields. In this paper we show that, on toric Fano manifolds, the linear span of those Lie algebra characters coincides with the derivatives of the Laurent series of the Hilbert series.
