The Royal Meteorological Society Annual Conference 2017 will be held at the University of Exeter on 13/14 July. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Weather and Climate Impacts: from research and services to application and policy’.


The annual conference provides a unique opportunity to bring together research scientists, operational meteorologists and industry with an integrated approach that aims to maximise the exchange of knowledge and ideas in meteorology, air quality, climatology, and other related fields through a series of workshops running during the 2-day event.

The theme of the conference is Weather and Climate Impacts and aims to build upon the thriving research community in the UK, and provide a platform for the interdisciplinary community to come together to share recent research and to forge exciting new collaborations. The conference will include a mixture of thought provoking plenary sessions, workshops, and poster sessions aiming to stimulate and foster new ideas around the research, services, technology and communication of weather and climate impacts.

Keynote Speakers for this year’s annual conference will include the Met Office's Chief Scientist, Prof Stephen Belcher, Peter Betts, Director of International Climate and Energy, BEIS and Dr Crystal Moore, Deputy Director, Head of Centre, Flood Forecasting Centre.

Alongside the opening talks from these industry professionals, three parallel streams of workshops will run across the two-day period. Workshop titles include Seasonal Forecasting, Long range transportation of pollutants, Assessing Climate Change Risk across different sectors and Flood Forecasting, Management and Resilience, plus many more.
