On the basis of the Information and Analytical Situational Center of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute the next stage of training of specialists within the framework of the large-scale program "She Demines" has been successfully completed. This practical workshop is being held for the second time, which indicates the high efficiency of the chosen training methodology and the critical importance of training qualified personnel for the field of mine action. During the week, from April 27 to May 1, experts from the World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development shared their experience with the participants, focusing on the integration of modern digital tools into security sector processes.
The program "She Demines" is implemented by the Association of Mineworkers of Ukraine, NGO "Girls" and BBC Media Action together with UN Women in Ukraine in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine with financial support from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development of Canada and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia. During the intensive training, the head of the GIS laboratory Sergii Gapon revealed in detail the functional capabilities of QGIS and ArcGIS Online software. The program covered the full cycle of working with spatial data, from the technical aspects of processing vector and raster layers to the application of complex analysis algorithms that directly affect the quality of planning and making operational decisions in humanitarian demining.
Special attention was paid to practical skills development, where the trainees independently created thematic maps, formed spatial databases and developed analytical solutions for visualization of the results of the survey of territories. Mastering such tools allows not only to effectively assess risks in contaminated areas, but also to create reliable geoinformation products, which are the foundation for the restoration of a safe living space in Ukraine. The acquired competencies will make a significant contribution to the professional capacity of specialists and will contribute to the implementation of advanced data processing standards in the daily practice of mine action operations.
The activities of the World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development are not limited to conducting trainings. Our specialists are regular participants in international and national scientific events, ensuring a high level of expertise within the framework of specialized seminars and open lectures. Professional activity covers a wide range of modern scientific areas, in particular, conducting strategic foresight research, developing remote sensing methodologies, as well as in-depth analysis of data of various nature using the latest artificial intelligence architectures.
