The governing body of WDS is World Data System Scientific Committee (WDS-SC) with the following tasks:
- Loyalty to the mission of International Council of Science at creation of WDS and execution of the tasks in managing of assignments of qualitative evaluation, data and services to the international scientific community and to other interested sides.
- Development and monitoring for realization of WDS creation plan by means of World Data Centers implementation to WDS and Federation of Astronomical and Geophysical Services (FAGS)
- Definition of agreed standards, creation and control on procedures of consideration and accreditation of existing organizations
- Supervision in geographical and disciplinary spheres of System action and development of strategy for recruitment and creation of new objects of WDS
- Consideration of questions concerning resources and assignment of instructions concerning mechanisms of objects financing in scopes of WDS, when it’s reasonable.
- Setting of strong connections in cooperation with Strategic Coordination Committee in questions of information attached to International Council of Science;
- To develop tight connections and cooperation with the Data Committee for Science and Technique (CODATA) attached to International Council of Science.
