Meeting of World Data System Scientific Committee

Scientific advisor of World Data System for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development – Academic of National Academy of Science Michael Zgurovsky, who is a member of World Data System Scientific Committee (WDS), took part in the first meeting of this Committee at 13th till 14th of October in Paris (France).

During the first day most attention was payed to some organizational questions such as World Data Center’s and Federation of Astronomical and Geophysical Analytical Services consolidation, certification processes, data publication, creation of global system of the systems and on-line portal of WDS.

The next day participants of the meeting worked on the practical side of the question, especially on interest’s representation, opportunities and obligations of regional communities in work with data. During the second half of the day, participants discussed the Constitution and Status of new World Data System, also the plans and further steps for WDS development.

Teleconference of WDS Scientific Committee

On the 29th of September 2009 usual teleconference of World Data System Scientific Committee took place.

In scopes of this conference survey of proposals about final schedule of the First Meeting World Data System Scientific Committee was made. The meeting will took place from 13th till 14th of October in Paris (France), comments concerning the document WDS-TT white paper version 5.0 that was distributed by David Clark – a secretary of Transmission Committee for WDC implementation in WDS, and questions, that should be included in discussions in Paris or in future teleconferences were also considered.

Meeting of World Data System Scientific Committee in format of teleconference

On the 27th of September 2009 usual teleconference of Scientific Committee of World Data System (WDS) took place. During the conference questions concerning organization of First Meeting of World Data System Scientific Committee were discussed. The meeting will be held on 13th -14th of October in Paris (France)

Also David Clark and Rut Neilan informed about the course of preparation and joining of interested organizations to the portal. Ray Herris commented that this is the key information for WDC Scientific Committee that has a big influence on that what will be the World Data System like. The Results will be announced and analyzed in the white paper document from Transmission Committee for WDC implementation to WDS that is in the stage of development for now. Michael Dipenbrok agreed that in this document the results of the survey should be lighten up. That is why all the members of Scientific Committee with the purpose of its wide spreading, should interrogate their colleagues and partners by e-mail. Especially, all national and joint members of International Council for Science should receive this survey with the request to answer.

In the next paragraph the status of preparation of the document White Paper of WDSTT was considered. At the end of the meeting the program of First WDS Scientific Committee and the format of next teleconferences were discussed.
